What is laser?

Laser hair removal is the process of eliminating hair by means of exposure to pulses of laser light that destroys the hair follicle. It had been performed experimentally for about twenty years before becoming commercially available in 1995.

These days, many laser devices, including clinical and home lasers, have been invented so that people can easily get rid of their body hair.

Hair removal laser is one of those things that we have all heard a lot about, and in recent years, it has grown significantly popular among people. There are many stories about it. Some people consider it very useful and effective, and some believe that it has limited efficiency and results. There are some who are afraid of its complications and possible side effect. In any case, laser hair removal is one of the most popular ways to get rid of unwanted body hair and therefor not needing waxing, using razors, clippers, and creams. Because currently, it is the only permanent way to get rid of unwanted body hair.

HOW IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL DONE?

In laser hair removal, strong laser energy is used to prevent the growth of body hair. By emitting light, the laser targets the hair follicle without harming the body’s skin and prevents hair growth by heating and damaging it. The darkness of the melanin pigment in the hair follicle is the part that is targeted by the laser waves. Of course, because 10-20% of the follicles are growing in each period, so laser sessions to get rid of excess body hair must be repeated several times under the supervision of professionals until all the hair follicles are gone.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Even though you will not always get rid of excess body hair after one laser session, the biggest advantage of laser is that it reduces the speed of hair growth significantly, and among almost all the methods used to get rid of excess body hair, it has the greatest effect. Another advantage is that it does not hurt. The laser is either painless or may be a little uncomfortable for some people. Either way, it’s much better than waxing. Moreover, laser has no limitations and is used to remove unwanted hair from all parts of the body including the face.

But this method, along with all the advantages it has, also has disadvantages. One of those things is that you have to complete the course of treatment to get results and don’t leave it halfway. It can also be costly, which does not make it possible for everyone to use it.

Visiting and consulting with a laser hair removal specialist can be useful to avoid the disadvantages of laser.

CARE AFTER LASER

Considering that we damage the hair follicles during laser process, it is very important to take care of the skin in a few days after the laser and not to damage it.

It’s better not to use perfumed and alcohol-containing products for the lasered part of the skin.
Do not do tattoos, waxing, exfoliation and similar procedures on the area.
Avoid heating the skin and exposure to sunlight and do not take a hot shower immediately.
Avoid going to the pool for at least 48 hours after laser.
Wear loose and light clothing to minimise friction.
Drink plenty of water and use Aloe vera gel after the laser.
